Prius Dealer Wanted!

I'm looking to buy a Prius and wanted to entertain offers In or near Houston Texas. If your far from Houston (more than 200 miles) please include delivery charges in your price.

I'm ready to get on a list if the Car can be delivered before July 2006 (and after January 1 2006). I am ready to pay any of the drive out totals listed below in cash!

Here's my offer, MSRP on 2006 Green Prius with, Side Curtian Airbags, Leather Upgrade and Floormats

Here's how it breaks down
2006 Prius$21,700*
Factory Delivery Fee$ 585
Side Curtian Airbags$ 650**
Floormats$ 186
Leather Upgrade$ 1,049

Total$24,170

*Based on 2005 Pricing + 2%. This is historically what the increase has been.
**I'm willing to upgrade to the Smart-Key option if 3 fobs are provided (see Drive-Out Total 3 and 4).

Tax 6.25%$ 1,510
Title, Licence, Dealer Fee$ 180

Drive-Out Total(1) $25,860

$0 Deductable 7 year, 100,000 mile extended warranty (ToyotaCare)$ 985

4 year, 55,000 mile prepaid maintenance (AutoCare)$ 670

Drive-Out Total(2) $27,515
Drive-Out Total(3) = Drive-Out Total(1) replacing airbag package with smartkey package (difference of 450)$26,310*
Drive-Out Total(4) = Drive-Out Total(2) replacing airbag package with smartkey package (difference of $450)$27,965*

*Smart-Key option MUST include 3 Smart-Key fobs. Since the base model comes with 3 ignition keys, so should the upgrade!

If you want to sell a Prius for Drive-Out Total (1,2,3, or 4) then here's what I need.

  1. I must take delivery of the car between Jan 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006.
  2. I will need a detailed quote before I put any money down (at least as detailed as the one above).
  3. The ability to have my good faith deposit refunded if you fail to meet the previous 2 points or if the car is damaged and/or configured incorrectly.

If your a distant dealer, there are some other points that I would like to know about your delivery.

  1. Is the car driven to it's destination or does it ride on a truck?
  2. What happens if something is terribly wrong with the car (wrong color, dead battery, fails new car checkup)?
  3. Will Texas lemon laws still apply?

If you can come in under my bid, of course that is welcome. Contact me if you want me to buy your car.

The easiest way to contact me is to email me or post a comment to this blog (bottom of this page). Let me know if your a dealer or someone recommending a dealer. I know some dealers offer referal incentives, so you might get a few bucks off your Prius by hooking me up with your dealer.

  1. Added some better data. After researching MSRP bumps from 2004, to 2005, and speculation on what it will be from 2005 to 2006, I have estimated the MSRP to increase 2% from 2005.

I've also allowed for the 585 delivery fee. I read up on it, and it seems like it's actually charged to the dealer by the factory.

Also found that I was being overcharged for dealer fees. Title and Licence shouldn't run more than 180.

In the end, with the adjustment for 06 pricing, and the delivery fee, both totals have jumped a grand.

  2. Added Drive-Out Total 3 and 4. These are related to the Smart-Key option. Originally I was agianst this option, but most of my objections have been addressed save 1, spares.

I've found that some dealers are offering 3 fobs and others only 2. With Honda (and I presume Toyota), when you buy a car, you get 2 fobs and 3 ignition keys. Since the fobs are the only way to start the toyotas, I need 3 fobs so that I can have a house spare.

All I'm after is a 3rd ignition key. If it can be done without a third fob, then I'm open to suggestions.

  3. in my neighborhood they have been going for msrp + x%
I'm guessing that as x increases waiting list number decreases.
thay are cars sales folks after all, they can't help themselves.
wouldn't you sell the car to the highest bidder?

  4. Mr. Anon (09/20/05-04:40pm),

Got no problem with people trying to make a buck... just not my buck. I'm making a bet. I bet that over the next 270 days someone in the USA will sell a Prius at MSRP. Most of the people paying over sticker are doing so because they want the car off the lot the same day. I can wait.

Yes it is true that many dealers put you on the list then sell your car to the highest bidder once it comes in. That's unfortunate. I have found a number of dealers in Texas that have made offers that satisfy me, now I'm simply trying to figure out which ones are likely to be lying to me.

On the other side of the issue is loyalty. I've talked to a number of people who are on thier 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Prius. The one who bought 4 bought all of them from the same guy. Sometimes honesty pays. Plus the internet and the forums are also very helpful in exposing and identifing dishonest dealers.

My advice (although you didn't ask it). Don't overpay just because it's convientent to do so.

  5. I've recently read up on the photon cannon (HID lights). I'll probably expand my list to option 1,3 or 4. All pretty pointless until 06 option lists come togeather.
